Lenovo’s latest ThinkPads have USB-C chargers and webcam security covers

Lenovo is unveiling nine new 2018 ThinkPad models today, ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week. While all of the new models are primarily targeted at businesses, the X series laptops are perhaps the most interesting. Lenovo isn’t ready to detail a new X1 Carbon or X1 Yoga just yet, but the new X280 and X380 Yoga might just provide a hint of what’s to come.

Both models include Intel’s latest 8th-generation Core i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of SSD storage. As the name suggests, the X380 Yoga also includes Lenovo’s typical Yoga hinge to covert the laptop into a tablet mode, and there’s even a stylus included. Both also feature USB-C power adapters, and that’s a feature you’ll find across all of these new ThinkPad models.

Interestingly, the regular X280 also includes a new “ThinkShutter” physical webcam cover for additional privacy control of the camera. It slides across to disable the webcam, and it’s a feature you’ll also find on some of the ThinkPad T series too. The X380 Yoga doesn’t include this webcam cover, but it does include an IR camera for Windows Hello face recognition

Elsewhere in the ThinkPad 2018 lineup, Lenovo’s T and L series are also getting refreshed to include Intel’s latest 8th-generation processors. All three of Lenovo’s new ThinkPad T series include the ThinkShutter webcam cover, and the T480 and T580 also include a Windows Hello camera. The L value business laptops include robust support for USB-C with two ports each, and of course the USB-C power adapter itself.

All of Lenovo’s latest ThinkPads will be available this month, with the ThinkPad X280 starting at $999 and the ThinkPad X380 Yoga priced from $1459. Lenovo’s T series ThinkPads start at $989 for the basic model, and the value L series are priced starting at $609.
