Massive ‘invisible’ galaxy hiding next to Milky Way

A massive but extremely faint galaxy has been discovered right next to the Milky Way, according to o the data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia Satellite. The galaxy, though being large, has only a few stars as compared to the rest.

The galaxy has been named Antlia 2. It is a dwarf galaxy. The stars are very old and low in terms of metals and resources. However, compared to the other dwarf stars, ANt 2 is quite large.

Ant 2 does not give a large amount of light. Compared to LMC (Large Magellanic Cloud), Ant 2 is 10000 times fainter, meaning it has 10000 times fewer stars.

However, the theory which led to the formation of such a galaxy is not yet known.
